REMEMBER, RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE.

Every day, union members throughout our state are fighting personal battles related to mental health and/or substance abuse issues. For some, it may be anxiety or depression, while others may be coping with a drug or alcohol use disorder. No matter what you’re currently facing, there are people and resources ready to help you.

The construction industry has one of the highest suicide rates of any industry. In 2020, the rate of suicide among workers in general industry was 9.5 per 100,000. In construction, the rate was 45 per 100,000, almost five times higher. Approximately 5,000 construction workers die by suicide each year. As a partner in the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention (CIASP), the LHSFNA is committed to reducing the number of suicides in construction and helping LIUNA members get the help they need. As LIUNA members, you have each other’s backs. There are trainings, job site protocols, and state and international union funds all dedicated to protecting physical health and safety. Now more than ever, it’s imperative we work together to also prioritize strengthening and protecting our own mental health and well-being, and that of our union brothers and sisters.
